I was really glad for the topic this week because it gave me the opportunity to double check the work I've already done for my business. Through research and study, I was able to make sure I had met all the necessary requirements as far as licenses and permits go. Virginia is not very clear on their website so it required a lot of digging. I managed to find the actual laws and codes, but trying to understand what it actually meant through all the legal jargon was just a giant headache. I'm lucky in that home-based bakeries fall under an exception so I don't need to have any home inspections or food-related permits. However, when I open my storefront I will need to have all of that. The website was also unclear about taxes, but I have decided to charge a state sales tax just in case.
Since I already have my own site and everything, I felt like I had this week in the bag. What I didn't realize was that I should have done research before diving into everything. Last year, when I was getting the ball rolling, I went with GoDaddy as a host because that was the only one that I knew about. It's been fine for me, but after studying this week I've learned about other hosting sites and that maybe I could have gotten a better deal. I built my site through Wix and I didn't even know that I could use Wix as a host. After researching and exploring these different hosts and builders this week I learned that I could transfer my domain to Wix so everything was in one place. It's so much easier now! I also didn't realize just how many different website builders there are out there. After looking through Weebly and others, I'm still happy with my choice of Wix. To me, it's the most streamlined and works best for my business.
